The Whitfield County seat, and the centre of the world's floorcovering industry.
True Hand Roofing covers Whitfield County. With over 150 carpet plants inside the county, Dalton is an industrial market first, and we quote it as one.
We handle TPO, EPDM and PVC membrane, metal retrofit and flat roof repair, alongside residential replacements and repairs.
Dalton had 34,417 residents at the 2020 census across about 21.3 square miles. The population figure understates the place badly, though, because Dalton's roof area is industrial well before it is residential.
More than 90 percent of the functional carpet produced in the world today is made within 65 miles of this city. There are over 150 carpet plants in Dalton, and the industry employs more than 30,000 people across the Whitfield County area. Plants, dye houses, distribution warehouses and showrooms are not steep-slope buildings. They are enormous flat and near-flat decks carrying membrane or metal, with drains, curbs, mechanical units and expansion joints — every one of which is a place water gets in.
That building stock is the reason Dalton reads differently from the rest of our map. In Blue Ridge or Ellijay a hard job means a steep cabin roof at the end of a gravel drive. In Dalton a hard job means a hundred thousand square feet of deck that has to stay watertight while people work underneath it.
One quoted roof, no completed job yet. Whitfield County came into our service area on August 1, 2026 for a structural reason rather than a sales one: Dalton and Chatsworth are adjacent county seats, Murray County was already ours, and the crews are in that corner of the map regularly.
We would rather open here on the commercial side, where the buildings are, than claim a residential history in Dalton we have not earned. If you manage a plant, a warehouse or a showroom roof in Whitfield County, that is a conversation worth having.
Drainage before membrane. On a big deck the failure is almost never the field of the sheet — it is standing water at a blocked drain, a sagging bay, or a curb detail nobody has touched since the unit was set. We look at where the water goes first, because a new membrane over a bad drainage plan just buys time.
Retrofit versus tear-off. Metal retrofit over an existing deck can be the cheaper and far less disruptive route on an industrial building, and sometimes it is not the right call at all. That depends on the deck condition and the insulation underneath, which means opening it up and looking rather than quoting from an aerial.
Documentation the owner can file. Commercial roofs come with warranties, lenders, insurers and property managers attached. We photograph and write up what we find and what we did, because on this kind of building the paperwork is part of the deliverable.
Dalton is the exception on our map: the county desk covers the county seat. Whitfield County's Building Inspection division, part of the county Engineering Department at 136 Gillespie Drive in Dalton, enforces building, zoning and property-maintenance codes for both unincorporated Whitfield County and the City of Dalton, and administers Georgia's minimum standard technical codes. Other incorporated places in the county, Tunnel Hill among them, use separate applications. Whether a permit is required for a given scope is the county's call rather than ours, and we confirm it before starting.
