Finding a Leak in a Cabin Nobody Lives In

Storm or hail damage? We photograph the damage, put it in a detailed written report, and meet your adjuster on the roof — you stay in control of your own claim, from inspection to install across North Georgia.
Get your storm damage documentedRoofing in East Ellijay, GA — repair, replacement, and inspections along the GA-515 corridor in Gilmer County. Its own city, its own permit desk. Free estimates.
Its own city, its own permit desk, and the four-lane running straight through the middle of it.
True Hand Roofing works across Gilmer County every week. East Ellijay is not an outlying stop on that route — it is the corridor the route runs on.
We handle roof replacements, repairs, and hands-on inspections, and we help homeowners document storm damage for insurance claims.
Here is the fact almost nobody outside Gilmer County knows: East Ellijay occupies 3.28 square miles, and the city of Ellijay next door occupies 3.59. They are, to within a rounding error, the same size on the map. Ellijay holds the county seat, the courthouse and the crowds; East Ellijay holds 650 residents across an almost identical footprint. Two cities, one town, two governments.
What fills East Ellijay's share of that map is the road. Georgia State Route 5/515, the four-lane bypass around Ellijay, runs the entire length of the city from north to south, with US Route 76 riding along it through the northern half. A city built along a cleared four-lane behaves differently from one built into a cove — there is frontage, there is open sky, and there is wind that has nothing to slow it down.
The Cartecay River crosses East Ellijay from east to west on its way to the Coosawattee, and the city sits against the southern boundary of the Chattahoochee National Forest. So a single small city gives you highway frontage, river bottom and forest edge within a few minutes' drive — three genuinely different sets of conditions for a roof to live in.
We will be precise rather than flattering here. Gilmer County is one of our two busiest counties — we have completed more roofs here than almost anywhere else we work — but that record is booked under Ellijay addresses, because that is how mail is addressed on both sides of the line. We are not going to convert those into an East Ellijay job count that we cannot stand behind.
What we can stand behind is proximity. The centre of East Ellijay is under two miles from the centre of Ellijay. Our crews are on these roads constantly, so a look at your roof is a detour rather than a dispatch.
The jurisdiction question is real, not paperwork theatre. Two adjacent cities plus the county means three possible authorities within a couple of miles, and a shared ZIP code that tells you nothing about which one you are in. We settle that at the parcel before ordering material.
Corridor frontage is exposed frontage. Property along the 515 right-of-way has had its windbreak cleared. Ridge caps, edge metal and fastening pattern do more work there than they do on a lot with mature canopy on the windward side.
River bottom and forest edge behave differently again. Down along the Cartecay, and out where the city meets national forest land, you get the shade, damp and constant leaf load that define the rest of Gilmer County. Same city, opposite problem — which is why we look at the property rather than the town name.
East Ellijay is separately incorporated and runs its own planning and zoning, building inspection and code enforcement, out of City Hall at 107 East Oak Street, East Ellijay, on 706-276-3111. That is a different desk from the City of Ellijay's, and a different desk again from Gilmer County Planning & Zoning, which sits at 1 Broad Street, Suite 002 in Ellijay on 706-635-3406 and covers unincorporated parcels. Whether your particular job needs a permit is the jurisdiction's determination, not ours, so we confirm before starting and document the finished work.
